I am a big, big, big fan of video emails. This one thing is simple, but it will change the game and how you service and how you show up and how you meet with people. To date, I personally have sent over 5,000 video emails. Some of them are after I meet somebody at a networking event. Some of them is after a meeting with a client. Some of them are just trying to better communicate.

I did a video email this morning. I was introducing someone to someone else on our team, and I did a quick one-minute video email in the hotel. The use of video email is one of the most underrated things I think out there. When I first got started I didn't know what I was doing, but I just got BombBomb, which is the ability to send video emails, and I met somebody. I just wanted to say hi, and I just wanted to say it was a pleasure to meet them. I sent this video email and the response that I got back really opened my eyes.

The response that I got back was, “Caleb, I've never received a video email. I love what you're doing. Whatever I can do to help, please let me know.” And this is someone that I had a ton of respect for. After that one video email, I was like, “How can we use video emails in other ways?” I was going to school to the University of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, for business and finance. I was in a class that I didn't really like, and we had to write this long paper, and I was like, you know what? I'm just going to make a video and explain to the teacher how I'm not going to write the paper. I thought I was going to get a bad grade in this. I sent a video email of all the things that I learned. Essentially, I did my six-page paper in a video format, and she not only passed me, but she gave me an A+ because she's like, “You're the first person to ever do this. You're so proactive.” I'm like, “Wow, I just saved a ton of time not having to write a paper, and I impressed the teacher.”

There's a CEO of a big-time insurance company that we would all know. I met him just at a party, talked to him for five minutes, and I sent him a one-minute video email just as a follow-up to say, hey, it was a pleasure meeting you. We talked about a couple health things. Here are a couple takeaways. And he wrote back, “Caleb, this is the best email I've ever received.” I don't say this to brag. When we can do things that are easy, that stand out, from a leverage standpoint, it's like game changer. This person receives hundreds of emails a day, and yet he said that this is one of the greatest emails he's ever received. Whenever we can do that and scale it, think about the experience that our clients can have. Think about how we can do this not just in networking but think about how we can scale this from a standpoint of our client experience.

What services should you use? I personally use BombBomb. It's about $50 a month. It's not the cheapest, but since I started with them, I have over 5,000 emails and I just have BombBomb as my service that I personally use. Our business, we have over 20 people on our team. The majority of the people in our business use SendSpark at a fraction of the price, and they're a phenomenal business, so if you're just starting, SendSpark might be a really, really good company for you to use. Loom is a company out there that I don't personally use, but I have a lot of people that do. It's an ability to share your screen, do a video on your screen, and a lot of people use Loom and it's worked out well. There's other services as well, but these are the three that I just wanted to mention.

So number one is find a service. Number two is figure out how to integrate that service with your email, because if it's not easy, we're not going to do it. Figure out how to take your video email and try to integrate it with LinkedIn, your email, and all this so it's easy. I have to click one button and boom, I can start sending a video. And then number three, make the video. It sounds crazy, but the majority of us will never make videos or the majority of us will be perfectionists and be like, “I didn’t say this” or “My hair's out of line” or “I misspoke on this.” And I'm telling you, making imperfect videos is far more valuable than being perfect and scripted and feeling robotic or not sending any videos at all.

To prove a point, I just want you guys to know how I would send a video. If I was to meet one of you, I would just take out my camera and say, “Hey, it's Caleb here. I just want you to know it was a pleasure meeting you at MDRT. I want you to know that in our conversation, these were a couple of things that really stood out. I would love to get to know you better. And here's my contact info. Here's maybe a link to my calendar invite and let's do a virtual coffee. And I would just love to get to know you on a more personal level. I hope you have an amazing rest of your day."

That's a 21-second video email that will freaking stand out. And people will remember me, whether I do that to connect with people, or whether people do a clarity call with our business and get an actual personal video email from our salespeople afterwards, or if you meet with a client and at the end of that meeting, you can just send them a video. If compliance you think has an issue, it doesn't have to be anything business. But these things make a difference and really make you stick out.
